Person Struck, Killed In Big Dig Tunnel

State police say a 75-year-old driver is dead after being struck by a car when he got out of his disabled vehicle inside a Big Dig tunnel.

David Dang of Somerville was pronounced dead at Boston Medical Center hours after the accident, which happened just after 8 a.m. Friday.

Dang was standing in a travel lane when he was struck in the southbound side of Interstate 93 inside the O'Neill Tunnel near the South Station exit.

He was taken to the hospital with critical injuries, where physicians pronounced him dead.

The driver of the other vehicle stopped and at this point is not expected to face charges.

Authorities described the other driver as a 64-year-old Ayer man. They withheld his name because no criminal charges have been filed against him.
