Boston City Council Names Feeney To City Clerk Post

This article is more than 11 years old.

Boston city councilors have named their former colleague, former District 3 Councilor Maureen Feeney, to become the next city clerk.

Three of the last four city clerks were members of the Boston City Council, including outgoing clerk Rosario Salerno, who has held the job for more than 16 years.

Feeney will be the next to hold that position, which now pays $103,000 per year.

Feeney resigned last month before the end of her term to set herself up to take over as Salerno leaves.

After a public outcry, the council advertised the job. Twenty-six people applied for the position, but only two went through the final interview process.

Feeney won the support of 10 councilors.

This program aired on December 21, 2011. The audio for this program is not available.
