Lynn Teen Held Without Bail In Slaying

A Lynn teenager who told police that he fatally shot his friend by accident has been ordered held without bail after pleading not guilty to murder.

Jaleel Floyd was arraigned Thursday in Lynn District Court for allegedly killing 19-year-old Jonathan Rentas on Wednesday after a Christmas party.

Police say the 19-year-old Floyd and Rentas were two of four people sitting in a car outside Rentas' home when the shooting occurred.

The Daily Item reports that Floyd's lawyer told a judge that the victim was showing off the gun to his friends and handed it to Floyd when it went off accidentally.

Law enforcement said that Floyd fled almost immediately after the shooting.
