Developer Winn Is Fined For Illegal Contributions

Prominent Boston real-estate developer Arthur Winn will not serve any time in prison for making illegal campaign contributions.

A judge on Tuesday fined Winn, 72, of Brookline, $100,000 for donations to various local elected leaders, as he sought support for his proposed Columbus Center project.

Winn's lawyer, Robert Popeo, says he appreciates the federal judge respecting a plea deal.

"The judge had it right," Popeo said. "She treated it for what it was — two misdemeanors and she fined him $100,000."

Under a November deal, Winn pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor charges. He admitted reimbursing family members to make donations on his behalf.
