BU Community Addresses Possible 'Culture Of Rape' On Campus

Boston University officials are vowing to combat what some students are calling a "culture of rape" on campus.

The push comes a week after BU men's hockey player Max Nicastro was arraigned on rape charges.

In December, Nicastro's former teammate, Corey Trivino, was charged with sexual assault. Both men have pleaded not guilty.

BU student Ramona Ostrowski doesn't think the problem is exclusive to the hockey team.

"I think it's unfortunate that there were two issues there, but I think it's a much larger issue than one particular group of people at one particular institution," Ostrowski said.

Ostrowski was among the students who attended a town hall meeting Monday night at the school's Center for Gender, Sexuality and Activism.

The center's co-director, BU senior Ariana Katz, joined WBUR's Morning Edition to discuss the issues.
