Boston Man In Court On Stolen Car Charges

A Boston man police say was in a stolen vehicle that struck a state trooper working a detail at the Boston-Quincy line is headed to court.

Brandon Smith is scheduled to be arraigned Friday in Dorchester District Court on charges of receiving a stolen motor vehicle.

Police say the 25-year-old Smith was one of two occupants of Toyota Yaris that struck the state trooper on Thursday morning when officers were attempting to pull the vehicle over at the Neponset Street Bridge work site. It was later found abandoned.

The car had been reported stolen March 16 by a car rental company operating out of T.F. Green Airport in Rhode Island.

Smith is the only suspect charged at this time.

The trooper struck, 41-year-old Scott Flaherty, has serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
