Conference Look At Older Adults In Cities

State and local officials are joining scholars and other experts in Boston for a conference that will explore unique demands created by the growing number of people aged 65 years and older living in cities.

Participants at the conference opening Wednesday are expected to discuss challenges of health care, diet and physical activity together with economic and policy problems created by the global rise in older adults living in cities.

The two-day conference is hosted by Tufts University's Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging, which is described as the largest research institution in the world devoted to investigating the relationship between nutrition and aging.

Speakers at the conference will include Ann Hartstein, secretary of the Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs and Joseph Coughlin, director of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's AgeLab.

This program aired on April 7, 2012. The audio for this program is not available.
