Friends and family are mourning the death of news icon Mike Wallace.

The 93-year-old broadcaster, who hosted the CBS show "60 Minutes" for nearly four decades, died Saturday night in Connecticut.

Wallace was born and raised in Brookline, Mass. Later in life, he became a fixture on Martha's Vineyard, where he owned a summer home and built a tight community among the other famous writers who took refuge on the island.

Julia Wells, editor of the Martha's Vineyard Gazette, joined Morning Edition to discuss Wallace's special connection to the island.
