Trooper Injured In Shooting Out Of Hospital

State Police say a Massachusetts trooper who was wounded in a shooting in Chicopee has been released from a hospital and is recuperating at home.

The Boston Globe and WCVB-TV report that State Police spokesman David Procopio says Trooper John Vasquez underwent surgery at Baystate Medical Center. He was released Sunday.

Vasquez was shot Friday in his lower left leg and right hand, allegedly by 41-year-old gunman Carlos Laguer.

Authorities say Laguer, who died in the shoot-out, was holed up inside a home and shot Vasquez. Officials are investigating whether Laguer shot himself or was shot by police.

The gunfight began after police responded to a report of shots fired at the West Street address.
