This article is more than 11 years old.

A disturbing trend is unfolding at nursing homes across the country.

An investigative report conducted by The Boston Globe reveals many nursing homes use powerful anti-psychotic drugs to control agitation and combative behavior in their patients, but many don't need them.

Kay Lazar, one of the reporters on the study, joined WBUR's Morning Edition to talk about the findings.

This program aired on April 30, 2012.
