Gov. Patrick Tends To Ill Daughter, Cancels Day's Schedule

Gov. Deval Patrick’s eldest daughter Sarah was hospitalized Monday night after becoming ill at dinner and is in stable condition, according to aides.

Patrick on Tuesday morning cleared his busy schedule so that he and his wife Diane could be with her.

In a statement, Patrick’s communications director Brendan Ryan said that Sarah, 26, “was hospitalized last night after becoming ill and temporarily disoriented while at dinner.”

According to aides, Sarah was having dinner in the Berkshires with Patrick’s youngest daughter Catherine when she became temporarily disoriented. She was brought to a nearby hospital where she remained overnight.

Sarah lives with her husband in Richmond, where the Patrick’s also have a second home.

“She is in stable condition and will remain in the hospital today for observation and further tests. Governor and Mrs. Patrick's schedules have been cancelled today so they can be with Sarah,” Ryan said in a statement.

Patrick had been scheduled to discuss economic issues this morning in Boston before attending a bridge reopening in Wellesley, energy announcements in Newton and Malden, and a 6:30 p.m. appearance at Health Care For All’s annual celebration at the Sheraton Boston Hotel.

This program aired on May 8, 2012. The audio for this program is not available.
