Just hours before he was scheduled to become a free agent, Boston Celtics star Kevin Garnett has reportedly agreed to a new three-year, $34 million contract.

Multiple reports say terms of the deal are still being worked out, but the agreement would bring Garnett back to the Celtics for his 18th NBA season. The 36-year-old averaged 15.8 points and 8.2 rebounds during the shortened 2011-2012 regular season, and improved to 19.2 points and 10.3 rebounds in the playoffs.

It's been widely speculated that Boston's "Big 3" played their last game together as the team lost to Miami in the Eastern Conference Finals. Ray Allen is considering offers from other teams, and Garnett has been considering retirement. Paul Pierce has two years remaining on his contract.

If he plays next season, Garnett is expected to mentor rookies Jared Sullinger and Fab Melo, drafted by the Celtics Thursday night.
