2nd Rape Reported On Harvard Campus

A second rape has been reported on the Harvard University campus in less than one week, according to university police.

An advisory on the Harvard University Police Department's website that says the victim, a resident of Somerville, was raped in the area of Oxford and Kirkland Streets on Tuesday sometime after 11 p.m.

The victim described the suspect as a white male in his mid-20s. The description is similar to the one provided by the woman who was attacked on August 10 behind Massachusetts Hall in Harvard Yard. Neither woman is affiliated with the university.

Last week's rape, Harvard's police spokesperson Steven Catalano told the Harvard Crimson, was the first stranger rape reported on campus in more than 12 years.

University police say they are working with Cambridge Police to investigate the incident and will continue to increase patrols in the area.

Police asked anyone with information related to either attack to contact Harvard University Police at 617-495-1796 or the Cambridge Police Department at 617-349-3370.
