At Least 2 Mass. Lawmakers Ousted In Primaries

It will soon be the end of the road for at least a couple of veteran Democratic lawmakers on Beacon Hill after they were defeated in primary elections.

Unofficial returns from Thursday's voting showed Rep. Demetrius Atsalis of Barnstable losing to Brian Mannal, a Barnstable attorney. There are no Republicans running in the district.

Atsalis was seeking an eighth term in House.

Also losing a bid for another term was Rep. David Torrisi of North Andover, who was defeated by Diana DiZoglio, of Methuen. Torrisi was first elected to the House in 1996.

Another incumbent Democrat, Rep. Kevin Aguiar of Fall River, was trailing primary opponent Alan Silvia by seven votes in unofficial returns. Aguiar told the Herald News that he would seek a recount.

This program aired on September 7, 2012. The audio for this program is not available.
