Farrell To Be Next Red Sox Manager

The Red Sox have found their new manager. The team announced Sunday afternoon that it's giving Toronto Blue Jays manager John Farrell a three-year contract.
Farrell served as the Red Sox pitching coach from 2007 to 2010 prior to moving to the Blue Jays. Under two seasons of his leadership, Toronto had a 154-170 record, finishing in fourth place in the A.L. East both years.
Boston is sending shortstop Mike Aviles to Toronto in the deal, in part to satisfy the remaining year on Farrell's contract. Right-handed pitcher David Carpenter will join the Sox.
Sportswriter Glenn Stout, the author of "Fenway 1912" and series editor for "The Best American Sports Writing," talked with WBUR's Weekend Edition host Sharon Brody shortly before the deal was finalized.
