DA: Argument Sparked Somerville Shooting

A late-night shooting in Somerville has sent one man to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and another man to court.

Authorities say at about 11:30 p.m. Sunday, Somerville Police were called to Broadway for report of a shooting.

Officers found a 28-year-old man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the neck. The victim was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital where he remains in critical condition. His name was not released.

Police arrested 33-year-old Santano Dessin of Somerville and charged him with armed assault with intent to murder, assault and battery causing serious bodily injury, and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling.

Dessin is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday. It was not clear of he had a lawyer.

The Middlesex District Attorney's office says it appears that the two men argued before the shooting.
