The race for the governor in Massachusetts has gotten more interesting following the decision last week by a top contender to bow out.

Lt. Gov. Timothy Murray said Friday he would not run for governor or any statewide office, citing the need to spend more time with his family.

Murray's decision opens the field for a whole host of contenders for next year's election.

UMass Boston political science professor Paul Watanabe joined Morning Edition's Bob Oakes to talk about the field.

This program aired on January 21, 2013.
