11 Students Injured After Newton Bus Accident

State police say 34 middle school students as well as the driver were taken to the hospital as a precaution after their school bus was involved in a three-vehicle crash on Route 9 in Newton, and 11 were treated for injuries.

The bus that crashed at about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday was transporting students in the Metco program from Boston to Lexington.

Police say the preliminary investigation indicates that the bus rear ended a vehicle stopped at a traffic light, pushing that vehicle into a third stopped vehicle.

Four students complained of neck or back pain, while the rest were treated for bumps, bruises and abrasions, authorities said.

The Metco program transports children from Boston to suburban schools.
