Tornado Warning Issued For Western Mass., N.Y, Conn.

The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning Tuesday afternoon after a tornado was reported near the Massachusetts-New York border.

Meteorologist Kim Buttrick of the NWS office in Taunton said forecasters in Albany saw a tornado on radar about 12 miles southwest of Great Barrington, Mass.

"We are monitoring the radar as this storm moves across southern Berkshire County and northern Litchfield County in Connecticut," Buttrick said. "We're also monitoring a lot of other storms that are on the radar right now across Massachusetts and northern Connecticut."

The warning also included parts of Dutchess County and Columbia County, N.Y.

People in the area were advised to take shelter, preferably in basements, and stay away from windows.

A severe thunderstorm warning was in place for Worcester County and part of Windham County, Conn.
