Go For A Swim, Lifeguards Have You Covered Friday

As Massachusetts heats up, state officials say lifeguards will report to work for special early shifts Friday to staff some public swimming spots.

At places where the Department of Conservation and Recreation usually provides lifeguard coverage on Saturdays and Sundays before summer, there also will be lifeguards working Friday.

Those locations in the Boston area will include Carson Beach and Pleasure Bay Beach in South Boston, Nantasket Beach in Hull, and Houghton's Pond at Blue Hills Reservation in Milton.

State officials say some spray decks and wading pools also will be open as temperatures are expected to climb to around 90 degrees.

Springfield officials say they plan to open four cooling centers in the city on Saturday, at the Forest Park, Indian Orchard, Liberty and Sixteen Acres library branches.
