Lawyers Review Juror Questionnaires In Bulger Case

Prosecutors and defense attorneys for reputed gangster James "Whitey" Bulger are poring through hundreds of questionnaires filled out by prospective jurors in his racketeering trial.

The lawyers were reviewing questionnaires Thursday after more than 800 prospective jurors were called to federal court this week. From that pool, 18 jurors will be chosen for Bulger's trial.

The questionnaires will be used to screen out certain people, including those who may know witnesses or are unable to sit on the jury. The trial is expected to last three to four months.

Judge Denise Casper has said prospective jurors will be questioned individually Monday. She said she hopes prosecutors and defense attorneys can give opening statements to the jury Wednesday.

Bulger is charged in a racketeering indictment with a long list of crimes, including participating in 19 killings.
