Haverhill Man Charged With Stalking Girl At Market

Police have arrested a man they say stalked a mother and her 7-year-old daughter around a Haverhill supermarket and took a cellphone picture under the girl's skirt.

Authorities say Stephen Hager, 38, of Haverhill, pleaded not guilty Thursday during his arraignment on a charge of attempted indecent assault and battery on a person under 14.

A court official says he was held in lieu of $10,000 bail.

Police say the man followed the mother and daughter around the store Monday. He was arrested Wednesday after police distributed surveillance photos of him.

The woman told investigators she asked the man if he had touched her daughter, and he responded by saying sorry and walking away.

The girl's mother told store management, who informed police.
