2 Slashed On Salem State Shuttle Bus

Police are seeking a 25-year-old man who's accused of slashing a passenger on a Salem State University shuttle bus and the driver who tried to help her.

Salem police identified the suspect as Timothy Wells of Woburn. After the attack Wednesday, the school cancelled classes and police told students and faculty to stay inside school buildings during what was ultimately an unsuccessful search for Wells.

A school official said classes would resume Thursday.

The school said the attack on the shuttle bus happened at about 11:10 a.m. It said the student suffered a laceration to her arm and the driver received a minor puncture wound to the chest.

Neither injury was considered life-threatening.

The Salem News reported that Wells was arrested in Salem on Sept. 3 for violating the city's knife ordinance.
