Mass. Doctors Concerned About Online Pot Companies

Doctors in Massachusetts say they're concerned about the companies cropping up online promising to match patients with doctors who will certify they need marijuana for health reasons.

The Massachusetts Medical Society says some of the companies are run by entrepreneurs with no medical background, raising questions about the quality and safety of the care.

The society's president tells The Boston Globe the sites are operating on the fringe of the state's medical marijuana law, which requires a "bona fide physician-patient relationship" before marijuana can be prescribed.

The medical society has brought its concerns to the state Board of Registration in Medicine, which regulates physicians.

Barbara Piselli, the board's interim executive director, said her agency is monitoring the situation.

Voters last November approved marijuana for medical use.
