Body Found In Search For Walden Pond Swimmer

Authorities say they have found a body in Walden Pond that may be that of a 63-year-old Lincoln man missing since he went swimming there on Sunday.

State police said Tuesday that the body was found just before noon. A positive identification hasn't been confirmed.

State police said divers found the man in water about 20 feet deep, about 75 yards from the shore of a cove on the southern side of the pond.

Police and fire departments from Concord, Lincoln and Bedford have been searching for the man since Sunday, along with state police and state environmental police.

Walden Pond was made famous by philosopher and poet Henry David Thoreau, who lived on the pond's northern shore for two years beginning in the summer of 1845 and wrote about his experience.
