Man Steals Boston Police Cruiser, Strikes Officer

Boston authorities say a burglary suspect stole a city police cruiser, struck an officer and was shot at by police in a wild chase that ended with him crashing the car.

Thirty-seven-year-old Wilfredo Rodriguez of South Boston was charged with assault and battery by means of dangerous weapon, assault and battery on a police officer and other crimes. He's to be arraigned Monday in South Boston District Court.

Authorities say the officer who was hit by the stolen cruiser early Saturday morning and another officer had minor injuries. Police say Rodriguez wasn't hurt when at least one officer opened fire at the stolen cruiser.

Police say Rodriguez stole the cruiser of an officer who left it while responding to a break-in.

It's not clear if Rodriguez has a lawyer.
