Portraits Of Boston: A Year In Solitude

rainy

“Two years ago I got into Buddhism. Around that time I also spent a year in solitude.”

“Did you go to a monastery or did you just stay home?”

“I mostly stayed home and tried not to talk to anybody. People thought I was crazy. I just wanted to figure out who I am because I wasn’t very happy with myself at the time. I came out of it with a lot of clarity. Now I’m not going to have a midlife crisis or anything like that. But if you want a mantra, I’ll give you this: To understand everything is to forgive everything.”

“Have you had a lot to forgive?”

“I’ve had a tough life but I don’t dwell on it.”
