Tisei Eyes Another Run For Congress

Former state Sen. Richard Tisei said Monday he has formed a political committee and filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission as steps toward a potential second run for the U.S. House.

Tisei, a Republican from Wakefield, lost a close race last year in the 6th Massachusetts Congressional District to incumbent Democratic U.S. Rep. John Tierney.

In a statement, Tisei said formation of the committee would allow him to actively explore a run for the seat next year. He said he hopes to make a formal announcement about his plans before the winter.

Tisei said the "hyper-partisanship" by both parties in Washington is strangling the government.

"We need more responsible Republicans and fewer divisive Democrats in Washington who are willing to stop the name calling, put party aside, and begin to seriously work together to do what is right for America," he added in the statement.

Tisei served in the state Legislature for 26 years, rising to Senate minority leader. He was the Republican nominee for lieutenant governor in 2010.

Tisei won 29 of the 39 communities in the North Shore district in 2012, but Tierney captured several of the larger cities in the district, enabling the eight-term incumbent to win the race by about 1 percentage point.
