Woman Dies In Heavy Surf In Provincetown

Provincetown police say a woman has died after getting caught in heavy surf at a local beach.

Emergency workers were called to Race Point shortly after 9 a.m. Sunday and found the woman dead on the beach about a half hour later. Local police, firefighters, the Coast Guard and the National Park Service took part in the search by foot, air and sea.

The woman's name is being withheld pending notification of her family. Police say she was in her 50s.

State police were notified and the woman's death remains under investigation.
