Midweek Storm Could Disrupt Holiday Travel

A storm system moving east across the country could bring heavy rain and wind to southern New England this week — just ahead of Thanksgiving.

"The timing of the storm on Wednesday will coincide with the peak time for holiday travel, by land, sea, and air," the National Weather Service's Boston office said in its forecast early Monday.

The storm is expected to drench parts of New England with 2-3 inches of rain and bring strong wind gusts of up to 50 miles per hour, especially near the coast.

The weather service also warns of rough seas as high as 12 feet offshore.

Update at 4:45 p.m.: The weather service released this image summarizing its forecast for this week's storm:
