As recovery efforts continue in the wake of Typhoon Haiyan, the death toll in the Philippines is now above 5,000, with 1,600 still missing and four million people displaced.

While there has been progress in many areas, the need for basic medical assistance in some of the most remote communities remains a priority.

A seven-member team of a disaster response volunteers from Mass General Hospital arrived in the Cebu Province last week. Dr. Miriam Aschkenasy, who leads the team, joined WBUR's Morning Edition by phone from Roxas City to discuss the group's effort.

This program aired on November 26, 2013.
