Boston Woman Charged With Robbing An 81-Year-Old Woman Held Without Bail

A Boston woman charged with mugging an 81-year-old woman outside a Hudson pet supply store then using the victim's credit card to go on a shopping spree with her sister has been held without bail.

Lizette Nevarez, 47, was ordered held by a judge Thursday during a hearing in Marlborough District Court, according to The MetroWest Daily News.

Nevarez approached the victim in a Petco parking lot last week and made small talk before knocking her over and stealing her pocketbook, police said.

The victim suffered minor injuries.

Nevarez then went with her sister to a Wal-Mart store where they used the victim's credit card to buy $1,000 worth of merchandise, including a 39-inch television and an Xbox video game console. The items were found in her home, police said. She has pleaded not guilty to a variety of charges including unarmed robbery.

The victim's credit cards, about $200 in cash and an airline ticket in the pocketbook were not recovered.

Nevarez's younger sister, a Marlborough resident, was released on $500 bail Monday and ordered to stay away from the victim. She pleaded not guilty to being an accessory after the fact, credit card fraud over $250 and larceny over $250.

Ken Gross, Lizette Nevarez's attorney, argued that because the victim could not identify his client, she should be released on conditions of reporting to the Probation Department daily and staying away from the victim and the shopping plaza.

"There was no identification by the alleged victim," he said.

The sisters were tracked down with the help of store surveillance video.
