Foes Question Revere Casino Environmental Papers

Plans to build a resort casino in Revere are under fire from opponents who say the developer failed to meet state requirements by submitting environmental documents from a defunct casino plan.

The state gambling commission requires casino developers to file documents on the environmental impacts of their plans.

As part of its application for Suffolk Downs, Mohegan Sun submitted environmental forms that referred to a plan by Caesars Entertainment that was rejected by voters.

The Boston Globe reports that Mayor Carlo DeMaria of Everett, who supports a rival casino project in his city, says Mohegan Sun and Suffolk Downs are attempting to "undermine the spirit and the letter of the gaming law."

Mohegan Sun said in a statement an amended environmental notice will be filed by the end of the month.
