Mass. Snowmobile Driver Dies After Maine Crash

Authorities say a snowmobile in Byron hit a parked vehicle, and the 34-year-old driver has been killed.

The Maine Warden Service says Saturday that Leonardo V. Rodrigues, of Everett, Mass., was pronounced dead after he was taken to Central Maine Medical Center by helicopter after the accident late Friday.

Officials say 39-year-old William Ashmore Jr., of Boston, was driving another snowmobile in the group and was charged by Maine State Police with operating a snowmobile while under the influence. It was unclear if he had an attorney.

The accident remains under investigation. The Warden Service says speed and alcohol are believed to be factors.
