Forecast: Cold, But Mostly Dry, Week Ahead

There are no advisories or warnings for weather today across southern New England as dry arctic air is firmly in place this morning. Several areas are below zero by a couple of degrees.  Bedford is at 5 below, while Orange came in as 8 degrees under zero. These are cold temperatures for any time of the year, but especially March.

There will be abundant sunshine to start the day, but clouds will increase during the afternoon. Highs remain up to 15 degrees below normal, only in the upper 20s to lower 30s over Cape Cod.

With clouds acting like a blanket, it won’t be as cold tonight. A weak weather system will pass through the area later Wednesday and Thursday, bringing a chance of a few periods of snow showers or flurries during this time. Some areas could be dusted with snow while others see up to an inch. The most likely areas to see snow that needs pushing away would be north and west of Route 495.

The clouds and snow will keep it very cold here through Thursday, especially in the afternoon. Highs will struggle to reach the upper 20s even in Boston. On Friday, milder air finally reaches the area and we will see temperatures break the freezing mark everywhere.  By Saturday 40 degrees may be common in the afternoon, and it will feel more like early March.

Tuesday: Cold this morning. Sunshine followed by increasing clouds. Highs of 24 to 30.

Tuesday night: Cloudy and not as cold with lows of 14 to 24. Coldest in the northern and western suburbs.

Wednesday: A few hours of snow showers in the early to mid afternoon. A coating to an inch is possible. Highs in the upper 20s.

Wednesday night: A few more snow showers over night. Some very light accumulation is possible under an inch. Lows in the teens to lower 20s.

Thursday: Becoming partly sunny and still cold. Highs of 25 to 30.

Friday: Partly sunny with a high of 35 to 40.

Saturday: Mostly sunny with a high near 38 to 44.
