Portraits Of Boston: Someone Who Was There

“We’ve been good friends for a long, long time.”

“What’s your secret?”

“We come from the same kind of families—strong Irish-Italian—and he knew my parents well. When everyone has passed on, it’s good to have someone who knew them and was there. It’s almost like you’re still with your family; you’re still seeing them through that person.

And he remembers me when I was gorgeous. He sees me like I used to look a long time ago.”

Portraits of Boston is a project of independent photographer Ivan Velinov. He is regularly sharing some of his favorite portraits with WBUR. Visit his website to see the hundreds of portraits he has taken on the streets of Boston.
