Timeline Pushed Back For New Boston School Chief

The city of Boston is pushing back the hiring timetable in its search for a new school superintendent.

The search committee on Monday night voted to delay the hiring decision until July 2015 at the earliest.

The original plan was to have a new school chief in place by this September.

The interim superintendent, John McDonough, has said he is willing to stay on longer than expected, but does not want the job permanently.

The Boston Globe first reported the delay early Tuesday.

After six years as superintendent, Carol Johnson retired last year.
