Beach Boys To Headline Boston Pops' Fourth Of July Concert

The Beach Boys will celebrate the Fourth of July in Boston this year.

The West Coast band will join Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra for the annual Fourth of July concert at the Hatch Shell along the Charles River.

The Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular -- now in its 41st year — will also feature Broadway and TV singer/actress Megan Hilty (you may recognize her from "Smash") as well as the Boston Children’s Chorus, and Julia Udine and Ben Jacoby from the new production of "Phantom of the Opera."

The program is scheduled to run from 8 to 11 p.m with fireworks beginning at 10:30. Here's the full schedule:

Thursday, July 3rd concert:

  • 8:30 p.m.: Concert begins
  • 10:00 p.m.: Concert ends

Friday, July 4th concert and fireworks:

  • 12:00 p.m.: Recorded music begins in Boston
  • 4:30 p.m.: Recorded music begins in Cambridge
  • 7:00 p.m.: WBZ News Radio 1030 simulcast begins
  • 7:50 p.m.: Live web stream begins
  • 8:00 p.m.: Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular broadcast begins on WBZ-TV Boston
  • 8:30 p.m.: Concert begins
  • 10:30 p.m.: Fireworks begin
  • 11:00 p.m.: Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular ends

The event will be televised on WBZ-TV, and, for the first time, a live stream of the event will be available online.

Last year's concert — the first sizable public gathering in the city after the Boston Marathon bombings — featured artists with local connections: Ellis Hall,  Susan Tedeschi, Howie Day and Ayla Brown.
