Lawyer: Another Case May Help Massachusetts Nanny

Lawyers for a nanny charged with killing a 1-year-old Cambridge girl she was caring for say records from another pending infant death case could help their client.

A lawyer for Aisling Brady McCarthy told a judge Thursday that a key prosecution witness in the case against his client also offered an opinion in the case of a man charged in 2010 with killing his 6-month-old son.

The medical examiner determined in that case that there is no way to determine if the boy was murdered, calling into question the diagnosis of one of the prosecution's chief expert witnesses.

If medical records from the 2010 case show that the witness' diagnosis was flawed they might also call into question her determination in the McCarthy investigation.

The judge did not immediately rule.
