Baker Says NFL Chief Should Step Down

Republican candidate for governor of Massachusetts Charlie Baker is calling on National Football League Commissioner Roger Goodell to step down.

Baker told reporters during a stop in Lawrence on Monday that new information that has emerged about the league's handling of domestic violence allegations against players shows Goodell knew more than he initially divulged. He said at this point it would be "appropriate" for the commissioner to step aside.

When first asked last week if he thought Goodell should be fired or resign, Baker said he wasn't sure and first wanted to see more information.

That response prompted criticism from Democratic nominee Martha Coakley and some women's groups who had called for Goodell's departure and said Baker wasn't taking a strong enough stance.
