Authorities say investigators are looking into the death of a man believed to be his 40s after a massive blaze raced through an apartment building in Boston, killing the victim and leaving about 30 people homeless.
Boston Fire Department spokesman Steve McDonald said on Saturday that firefighters recovered the body Friday night.
Jake Wark of the Suffolk County District Attorney's office says the death triggered an automatic investigation by firefighters, Boston police detectives and prosecutors.
The manner and cause of death are unknown. The cause and origin of the fire is still a mystery.
The blaze destroyed the 3-story, wood-frame duplex with six apartments in Boston's Roxbury neighborhood.
McDonald says the fire came in at 9 p.m. and eventually went to five alarms at the Winthrop Street home.
Authorities estimate damage at $1.1 million.
