Route 1A To Logan Closed After Overnight Accident
BOSTON - Authorities have closed a section of Route IA in East Boston that is a major route to Logan International Airport from Boston's North Shore after power lines were damaged in an overnight road accident.
Boston police said a pickup truck struck a utility pole and brought down power lines at about 4 a.m. Sunday. Another car then hit the wreckage. No one was injured.
The pickup driver, a 41-year-old Revere man, has been charged with drunken driving.
The road is closed in both directions between Boardman Street near Suffolk Downs and the Bell Circle rotary in Revere. It's not expected to reopen before late afternoon.
Drivers are advised to use Bennington Street to get to the airport from East Boston, and Route 16 west to Route 99 south to get to Boston.
Officials say estimated re-opening of Route 1A is between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m Sunday.
