Bridgewater State Day Care Closes As Director Is Placed On Leave

The director of a child care center at Bridgewater State University where a college student is charged with sexually abusing two preschool boys has been placed on leave over allegations that she failed to report the suspected abuse in a timely fashion.

University President Dana Mohler-Faria confirmed Thursday that Judith Ritacco has been placed on leave during the investigation.

Court documents indicate that Ritacco knew of possible abuse but told a teacher to keep the information confidential and to "not contact any outside agencies."

As director, Ritacco is a mandated reporter. She could not be reached.

The day care center has been closed until a temporary director can be found.

A 21-year-old student has been charged with sexually assaulting two young boys, ages 4 and 5.
