Cambridge Man Now Charged With Murder After Discovery Of Human Remains

A man held after the weekend discovery of human remains in Cambridge is now facing a murder charge.

Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said Wednesday that 32-year-old Carlos Colina of Cambridge will be arraigned on the new charge April 14. Colina pleaded not guilty Monday to assault and battery causing serious bodily injury and improper disposal of a body. He is held on $1 million bail.

Ryan said Colina and the victim, 26-year-old Jonathan Camilien of Somerville, knew each other. She hasn't given any details.

The remains first were found Saturday morning in a discarded duffel bag, then more were discovered at Colina's apartment building across the street.

A telephone message seeking comment was left Wednesday with Colina's attorney John Cunha. He declined to comment after Colina's arraignment this week but called it "a sad situation."
