Ex-Cambridge Elementary School Teacher Convicted Of Child Porn Charges

A former elementary school teacher in the Somerville and Cambridge public school systems has been convicted of federal child pornography charges.

Josh Wairi, of Somerville, was convicted after a five-day trial in U.S. District Court of possession of child pornography and transportation of child pornography. The 28-year-old Wairi was acquitted of three counts of production and attempted production of child pornography.

Scheduling is sentenced for July.

Prosecutors say the former fifth- and sixth-grade teacher used email to trade and receive images and videos of child pornography, and also uploaded images and videos of children being sexually exploited. He also traded the images with others.

He faces up to 20 years in prison at sentencing.
