Standoff After Gunshots Fired Near Dallas Police Headquarters

Dallas police say one or more suspects opened fire on police headquarters early this morning, rammed a police car and fled to a fast food restaurant parking lot just off Interstate 45 outside the city where they are engaged in a standoff with police.

Authorities say at least one suspicious bag left at headquarters has been confirmed to contain an explosive.

Police Chief David Brown tells a news conference that preliminary witness statements suggest there may have been other assailants firing from elevated locations. Brown says no injuries have been reported and that headquarters, as well as police substations, are currently secure.

Brown says police are in touch with one suspect in the van, which may be armored, and negotiations are proceeding. Dallas SWAT has been deployed.
