Asian Elephants Traveling From California Hosted On Illinois Farm
Two endangered Asian elephants spent the night at an Illinois farm coming from California.
The female elephants, 49-year-old Tai and 31-year-old Rosie, rested up at Effingham County Fair Board president Phil Hartke's family farm east of Teutopolis. Hartke tells the Effingham Daily News that he received a call early Friday from Have Trunk Will Travel, Inc., a California-based company that provides elephants for various occasions.
He says the elephants stayed in an empty shed on his property and were hosed down before continuing their journey east on Saturday morning.
Correction: A previous version of this report stated that the elephants were on their way to Franklin Park Zoo in Boston. They will not be on display at that zoo. Franklin Park Zoo does not currently host elephants. We regret the error.
