Forecast: A Rather Rainy Weekend Ahead; Showers Possible Today

The dry pattern which was in place much of the spring has changed enough so I am not worried about a drought, at least for the first few weeks of July. Unfortunately, this also means vacationers need to be aware not every day is going to be perfectly sunny. I am going to go backwards with forecast starting with what looks to be a rainy Sunday first and then moving back to today.

Sunday

This weekend is going to be a 50/50 split. The more I look at Sunday, the more I see a washout at least in the morning. While it might not rain every minute of the day, it’s going to be wet enough that everything from golf tournaments to beach parties to outdoor weddings will be impacted.

It won’t matter where you are in New England, this weekend; Sunday is the least favorable day. It’s also going to be quite cool, especially in northern New England with highs only in the 60s.

Here in southern New England, if the rain area moves quickly enough, there is the chance we could dry out the second half of the afternoon, much like last Sunday although I don’t expect as much sunshine. The track of the storm will determine if we break into the warm air on Sunday briefly. If the storm rides far to the north, then we could warm into the 70s or even 80s west of Route 495, but if the storm stays south, all areas will remain in the 60s.

Saturday

Saturday will be a transitional day. Although there could be some showers developing in the afternoon, the morning appears dry. It won’t be hot, but it will be comfortable. Highs should reach the 70s in most areas.

I expect up to an inch to an inch and a half of rain from Saturday evening through Sunday. This will continue to keep the ground from drying out, which is great this time of year.

Winds aren’t going to be much of a factor Saturday morning, but it will become windy from the southeast Saturday night and Sunday.

Friday

Friday features clouds and sunshine. While there is a risk of a shower south of Boston, it’s basically a nice dry day, but not warm. The sun is very strong so even though air temperatures won’t be hot, it will feel warmer in the sunshine.

Thursday

Today is another warm day with a blend of clouds and sunshine. There is a chance for some pop-up showers, but it’s generally dry. Overall, today will be a good beach day, especially in the morning through early afternoon.
