Police: Children Hurt While Playing With Fireworks In Boston

Police are investigating after two young children were seriously injured while playing with fireworks in a Boston neighborhood.

Family members say a 9-year-old lost a hand in the accident on Sunday. The boy is being treated at Boston Children's Hospital.

Police said a 5-year-old boy also suffered injuries in the incident on Howard Avenue in Dorchester.

Investigators are trying to determine where the illegal fireworks came from.

The state fire marshal's office says a man was hospitalized with serious injuries to his hand while igniting fireworks in the backyard of a home in Saugus on Saturday. Investigators found what was described as a large cache of fireworks in a bedroom of the home.

Authorities also reported large seizures of fireworks over the weekend in Pembroke, Hyannis and Dennis.
