Forecast: Mostly Sunny, With A Slight Chance Of Showers

Some much needed rain helped the gardens a lot yesterday with several areas seeing up to an inch and all areas seeing at least significant rain. This should hold us over for several days although I would not turn off the irrigation. The ground was dry enough heading into yesterday that it can handle the water.

Today, we do have a frontal system passing by the region, and while it’s basically a mostly sunny day, there could be a few pop-up showers and thunderstorms this afternoon in some towns. Most of you will stay dry, but the chance is high enough I want to mention it.

Last night wasn’t great for watching the Perseid meteor shower, but tonight will be much better. The best time is during the pre-dawn hours Thursday around 3 a.m. The meteor shower isn’t something that begins and ends with a hard start and stop time rather there is a crescendo of activity that peaks Thursday morning, but you can see the meteors all month. The deeper into August we go, the fewer meteors per hour there will be.

You just need to look up toward the northeastern part of the sky. It’s important to be somewhere it’s dark, as light pollution will block the meteors.

Warm and comfortable weather will continue right through the upcoming weekend. I am really bullish on Sunday with tons of sunshine, not significant amounts of humidity and summertime temperatures. Highs in the 80s will be common this weekend, perhaps cooler at the beaches, but not cool.

There are some signs of even warmer weather next week as our upper pattern changes a bit. I don’t see any 90 degree weather right now, but it would not surprise me if some starts showing up for a day or two.

Today: A blend of clouds and sunshine. A pop-up shower or thunderstorm especially north and west of Boston. High 79-84.

Thursday: Sunny, with a temperatures around 80.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 85.

Saturday: Lots of sunshine and warm. Highs in the mid 80s. A chance of a mid-afternoon thunderstorm.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high in the low to mid 80s.
